Trooper Kristina Manley
 My name is Trooper Kristina Manley, with the Oregon State Police. Previously I worked for the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy and Child Abuse Detective for four years. I had been considering a move, looking for more opportunity when I received a call from an OSP recruiter, Trooper Ken Terry,who I had had the opportunity to work with when he was a game Trooper in Tillamook County several years earlier. After speaking with Trooper Terry, who told me that OSP was now hiring laterals, I did a little research on the agency and was impressed with what I found. In particular the main advantages I saw were the room for lateral movement within the department and the variety of different divisions, such as Fish and Game, Patrol, Criminal, Lottery, Traffic, and many more.
After applying I went through the testing process and was eventually offered a jop working at Oregon State University in the Patrol Division. I attending the Oregon State Police pre-academy along with my fellow lateral hires at DPSST in October. It was a new experience. I was impressed by the sense of tradition and the level of training that I received while there. While at times it was physically and mentally challenging, it was also incredibly rewarding. Am I glad I made the move? Absolutely. I have been at my station for about a month now and I can honestly say that I am happy with the decision that I made. When considering the move it was hard to leave a department that I had started my career at and was comfortable with. But the benefits of working for OSP far outweighed the risk and I am glad I made the move.
Trooper Aaron Baimbridge
I came to the Oregon State Police from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office where I worked in Patrol. There are several reasons why I made the switch.
I worked as a Fish and Wildlife Cadet for the Oregon State Police from June to December in 1998, 1999 and 2000. When I worked at the Sheriff’s Office, it wasn’t quite the same feeling as when I was a cadet for State Police. I enjoy the patrol area freedom of the Oregon State Police. The State Police also allows me to be proactive in detecting and deterring criminal activity instead of just being reactive as I was at my previous job.
Before I decided to come back to the State Police I looked into the job security aspect. I found State Police is on the increase in their budget, legislative support and on the increase in employees. I felt comfortable that I would be safe financially, leaving my seniority at the Sheriff’s Office to having little seniority at State Police.
With the good lateral package that the State Police was offering it was the chance I was looking for to come back to State Police where I started my law enforcement career over 9 years ago, back in Fish and Wildlife for the Oregon State Police.
