Clearinghouse Unit (CHU)

The purpose of the Clearinghouse Unit (CHU) is to conduct fingerprint-based, criminal record background checks on employees and volunteers for a business or organization not governed by a state regulatory or licensing agency. A qualified business or organization must provide care or placement services, or licenses or certifies others to provide care or placement services for children under 18 years of age, elderly persons who are 65 years or older or dependent persons with a physical or mental disability, or medical disability due to alcohol or drug dependence.
The Clearinghouse Unit is responsible for conducting a fingerprint-based statewide and FBI (national) background check. The Clearinghouse Unit will then determine if the individual is qualified or not base upon the criteria set forth by the business or organization. The business or organization will then receive a letter of approval or denial on each applicant.
A fee is charged for each applicant, however, some organizations may be eligible to have this service provided at no charge.
